Getting the most out of your dehumidifier
Dehumidifiers are most effective when operating from the centre of a room with doors and windows shut if possible. Keep the amount of dust and dirt to a minimum in the room or else the filters can clog up reducing efficiency and will need to be changed more frequently. Dry air can still harbour nasty allergens, bacteria and odours. So clean your air with HEPA and activated carbon filters. HEPA 13 filters remove 99.95% of airborne particles, including dust mites and their faeces, pet dander, mould spores and viruses. Activated carbon filters trap foul odours such as pet or cigarette smells as well as hydrocarbon poisons.
For many people the ideal humidity level is 50% - 60%. You don’t want to dry the air out too much as this can cause sore eyes and skin problems as your body becomes dehydrated also.
